Arctic White and Hugger Orange, just like 1969 all over again. Built to commemorate Camaro's 30th birthday while harkening back to the marquees most famous paint scheme, these Z28's were a real treat to see in '97. The original and only owner thought so, too, and walked into Classic Chevrolet here in Mentor, OH and ordered every option available. That means the SS package, ALL optional SLP equipment, including leather. In short, the works! Then, after prepping the car himself, drove the car just 4,651 miles total! Not only that, he kept every scrap of paper, every magazine and every brochure he could get his hands on!

Let's start with both Window Stickers, one from Chevrolet and one from SLP, the SS package conversion company.
$25,520 Camaro Z28 Convertible
$575 30th Anniversary appearance package
$499 Leather bucket seats
$315 AM/FM/CD player
$270 Power driver seat
$225 245/50/16 Z rated tires
$60 Body side moldings
$15 Rear floor mats

$525 later it arrived at SLP totaling $29,235.

SLP added their $3999 package, including the ram air hood, high flow air filter, specific rear spoiler, ZR-1 style 16x8" wheels, 245/50/ZR16 B F Goodrich Comp T/A tires, Quaker State synthetic oil, anniversary SS badge on the dash, 3D SS badges and two SS key fobs. Also ordered:

$349 30th Anniversary addendum package
$499 Performance exhaust
$999 Torsen torque sensing limited slip differential and aluminum rear cover
$349 Hurst shifter w/leather shift knob
$99 SS floor mats
$299 Oil cooler package

The only other option SLP added to the Camaro was a performance suspension, which wasn't available on convertibles. The only option missing from Chevrolet is the engine block heater. I think I'm still safe calling this car fully loaded!

If you are in the market for a 30th Anniversary, they don't get much rarer than this one. Roger, the original owner, contacted SLP about production figures for his baby. Only 136 six speed SS convertibles were built out of 251 total anniversary drop-tops. Nearly everyone opted for the exhaust system and the floor mats while the Hurst shifter and the Torsen unit showed up on about half. A mere 16 convertibles came with the oil cooler package, and a total of nine people ordered the SLP car cover. Now, if all six people who ordered six speed drop-top anniversary package SS cars with the car cover AND everything else, it's one of six. But we saved the best for last … because this is THE last SLP 30th Anniversary Convertible produced! Because of that, SLP used (and verified in writing), the 1998 exhaust and shifter. Let's sum it up-this is THE rarest 30th Anniversary car ever produced … hands down.

That's just the start of the extras for the car. Not only is there a fat file folder with every scrap of paper for the car there's a BOX with stuff in the trunk! Half a dozen issues of Camaro Enthusiast magazine are here, along with a period copy of Hemmings (with these cars already for sale!) Roger went to the Camaro Club meet at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and saved everything from the registration forms to the ticket stubs, pictures of the car there and the event T shirt! Also in the box are all of the original manuals still in their packaging, the second key and fob (also unopened,) both brand new SLP key chains, SLP's parts catalog, the locking lug nut key and the rare dealer-only 30th anniversary launch announcement for salespeople on VHS!

How many times can you use the word "perfect" to describe a car? How about this gem to show you how well it's been cared for: Roger used a float charger on the battery when he stored it, and that's the original battery from 1997 still in the car! He wanted to make sure nothing would happen to his baby so he bought a four post lift for it and stored it out of harm's way! That fanatical attention to detail means the exterior of the car has no marks, no scratches, no nicks, no dents…nothing. Plastic seat covers protected the white surfaces from stains, so they're perfect and crease free. (Speaking of plastic covers, the originals from the front seats and the steering wheel are tucked away in the trunk.) The tires are perfect, the wheels are perfect, and while it was up n the air, he made sure the undercarriage remained perfect! I've used "dealer fresh" to describe cars here before, but this car is ASSEMBLY LINE fresh!

As an anniversary model, this car's desirable. As an SS/Z28 car, the desirability factor climbs higher. As a one of one SLP car with a 6 speed, it's out of the park! Throw in the pristine, mint, 4,651 original mile status, and this is the one you've got to have for a significant Camaro collection, or to hang on to for future appreciation!
