Car Notes
Unconfirmed as an SS

2008.11.13 Ebay

Spring Hill, Florida, United States

This car is one of the best cars I have ever owned and I have owned way to many. To begin with the car is a 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary Brickyard 400 Pace car replica. The real ones are either tucked away in a garage or in a museum. The car is a 98 Z28 coupe with the 5.7 LS1 and is matched to a six speed transmission. Four wheel disk brakes, AC, power windows, locks, tilt, CD player, etc.

The Body.

The body has never been repainted except when the SS hood and rear tail with spoiler. Both are original GM. The conversion from a Z28 to the SS was very expensive. As all the decals are original GM decals and not reproduction like the ones from Phoenix Graphics. These decals are sold by each piece and cost over 1800.00 for the decals and dash plaque. It also has the Chevrolet bowtie plastic grill. The next conversion from the SS to the Brickyard 400 pace car cost another 2000.00. These were custom made by a graphic designer who made these from scratch with the original decal material than GM uses. It took me over three years to collect enough photos and pictures of these cars for him to reproduce them. You never see these cars at shows or auction to get a picture. Both sides are different and are not a reverse of the other side, which even complicates the procedure.

The drive train.
The engine as stated before is a 5.7 LS1 with 118k as of this writing. The trans is the Borg Warner T56 six speed trans. The transmission was replaced at 75K miles. I also installed a new clutch, slave cylinder and flywheel at the same time. I replaced it due to a leaking case. I had a new GM rebuilt unit, so I installed it and sold off the leaking case one. It does have the SLP short throw shifter and Hurst leather shift knob. The engine and transmission have always had synthetic fluid since about 60k miles or around 2003. Motor does not use oil. The one defect of the car is the motor. When cold, it sounds like noisy lifters, but actually is piston slap, as I was told by GM. It goes away after a few minutes and has done this since it was just about new. It does goes away after a few minutes and does it only when the engine is stone cold. I have talked to some performance shops and other LS1 owners, and apparently this is common on the early LS1 engines. Engine runs excellent and is completely stock. Even has the original stainless exhaust and tips. The rear end has the SLP racing aluminum cover. Brakes are good with recent new GM rotors and ceramic pads. Miles on brakes are about 20k and are still excellent.

Interior.

Interior is also stock and in excellent condition. No tears or rips and no cigarette or cigar odor. Seats and door panels are gray and red. It does have the 35th anniversary floor mats. AC blows cold. Nice and clean interior.

Tires and wheels.

These are original GM SLP chrome eleven spoke rims and BF Goodrich tires. Tires are about 50 percent gone. Has correct lug nuts and caps. No curb damage or road rash on the tires or rims.

Over all the car is in excellent condition and was taken good care of. I bought the car in 2003 and I bought it at a auction. I am I believe to be the second owner, not including the auction company. Everywhere it goes, it draws a crowd and people are always taking pictures of it. It even won a Editors Choice award at the Super Chevy in West Palm Beach. Car looks like 30k when it is just waxed and detailed. Also it is a straight coupe with no T tops.
