Here's your chance to purchase a 97' Camaro SS at a very reasonable price.
I have one car too many and this one needs to go. I have always wanted one of these later model SS Camaro's so I purchased this one from a guy in San Francisco about a year ago. The car runs and drives good but has a few things wrong which will need attention.
The following is my honest discription regarding the good, and not so good about this car:
-Body / Interior- The body is in very good condition, and as far as I can tell, I believe it's all original paint. (no accidents) Some of the paint shows signs of age, but I think a buffing wheel and some compound would bring it back pretty nice. The paint on the front of the car has the typical rock chips you would expect to see from 114K mi. of driving. The tail lenses are quite faded and I think the passenger side has a crack (see photo) The interior is in decent shape, but will need some detailed cleaning to make nice. The carpet has been worn through by the heel of someone's foot at the gas pedal. The headliner is starting to de-laminate from the foam backing in a couple of spots (not terribly bad yet) One of the previous owners I guess, wanted to keep the 30th. anniversary SLP dash plaque? It's missing. The turn indicaters are not currently working, but I have not had time to research the problem. Most likely a flasher, fuse or bulbs? All interior lighting works as it should. The gas filled struts for the rear hatch (trunk) need replacing. The driver's side switch for the passenger window is broken.
-Engine / Transmission- The engine runs fine with no known issues. It passed the California smog test with no problems. There are a couple issues electrically which should be taken care of. (1) The radiator fans are wired to a manual switch under the dash because they were not comming on when they were supposed to. (2) The temperature gauge has recently stopped working, but the car does not overheat. New spark plugs were installed at 112k mi. Has Flowmaster exhaust. Air conditioning blows cold. The 6-spd. transmission shifts smoothly and has no known issues, although I think it may need a new rubber mount at the crossmember because the shifter seems to bounce a little excessively.
The car drives smoothly and tracks straight on the highway. I manage to get about 25mpg. @ 65mph.
The last thing I need to mention is that the tires are not safe and will need to be replaced. My guess is that they were excessively exposed to the sun by the previous owner(s) and as a result have cracks on the sides. I am currently looking for an inexpensive used set to replace these with before the end of the auction, "but I make no guarantee that this will actually happen". You should expect to recieve the car with "bad" tires knowing they will need replacing. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS AUCTION UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE ABOVE STATEMENT! |
